MIT Farm Wins the Karl Taylor Compton Prize!
MIT Farm Club has been awarded the Karl Taylor Compton Prize, the highest award presented by MIT to students in recognition of outstanding achievements in citizenship and devotion to the welfare of the Institute. We are deeply honored to receive this recognition just one year after starting the club.

Seeding Discovery Presented at the MIT Museum
Aleks Banaś and Zachary Rapaport were awarded a Day of Climate grant to develop Seeding Discovery: Designing Growing Space for Your Community, a curriculum introducing K-12 students to food, agriculture, and design. Together with Kahleen Wheaton, Lyn Nanticha Ocharoenchai, and Elsa Deshmukh, the team presented the curriculum at the MIT Museum as part of the Day of Climate event. Back to the Farm (Although We Never Left)
There is never really an off-season at the farm, but that doesn't mean we can't find a reason to celebrate! We kicked off the growing season at Hannan Healthy Foods with a day of food, music, and community. We worked together, shared a barbecue, and even started a DJ set in the greenhouse.

Let's Cook Together! Our Second Resilient Future Dinner
For our second Resilient Future Dinner, we gathered around a meal of farm-fresh salad, soup, and roasted tofu. There is something special about getting to know one another while chopping vegetables and stirring a pot of soup. These dinners create space for students to share ideas about how small actions on campus can contribute to a more resilient future.

Our First Resiliant Future Dinner
MIT Farm hosted its first Resilient Future Dinner with Professor Kate Brown of MIT STS and Gabriel Bonamy, DUSP '26. The dinner brought students together to exchange ideas about how small actions within our campus environment can help create a more resilient future. The goal was simple: share a meal, share ideas, and think together about what we can do next.

IAP Rootmaking: Designing a Root Cellar for Hannan Healthy Foods
There is no off-season on a farm. While the fields rested under a layer of snow, MIT Farm students were working on ways to improve the infrastructure that supports them. During IAP, Aleks Banaś and Zachary Rapaport co-led a Department of Architecture class exploring a new root cellar for Hannan Healthy Foods. The project brought students directly into conversation with the needs of a working farm, using design to rethink how agricultural infrastructure can support changing farming practices. Fresh Food Bag Pilot Finishes with Success!
Six weeks. 260 Fresh Food Bags. More than 100 harvest and distribution shifts. Our first Fresh Food Bag pilot demonstrated a strong demand for affordable, locally grown food at MIT. The response was equally encouraging: 70% of respondents said the program increased their vegetable intake, while 79% found the bags very affordable. Most importantly, 94% said they wanted the program to continue. We are already working on ways to expand access next season!

MIT Tech: Connecting the MIT Community with Local Agriculture
Less than a month after our first volunteer session, nearly 100 MIT students had joined us at local farms. We had run nine volunteer sessions and distributed 150 boxes of fresh produce. The response was bigger than we expected and MIT Tech took notice here

Fresh Food Bag Program Launches
Fresh, delicious produce should be accessible to everyone! Together with the MIT Office of Sustainability and MIT Anthropology, we launched the Fresh Food Bag Program to bring locally grown produce directly to campus. Each week, community members could purchase a bag containing approximately $20 worth of fresh produce for just $10. The program offered a simple way to eat seasonally, support local farmers, and bring more fresh food into everyday campus life.

Our First Retreat at Hannan Healthy Foods
And we're off! Our first group of MIT students traveled to Hannan Healthy Foods in Lincoln, Massachusetts, for a day of farming together. We spent the day working in the fields and finished with a big bowl of salad made from the produce we had just harvested. Check our calendar for the next volunteer session.

Come Gather Around the Farm Cart
MIT Farm hosted its first club picnic around the Farm Cart. We gathered at Kresge Lawn, shared watermelon from Hannan Healthy Foods, picked herbs from the cart, and got to know one another. It was a small beginning to what we hope will become a growing community around food, farming, and design at MIT.

MIT Farm Wins the iCampus Prize
Aleks Banaś and Zachary Rapaport presented a vision for MIT Farm as part of the iCampus competition focused on sustainable initiatives on campus. Their proposal explored new ways to grow food and build relationships between MIT and local agricultural partners. MIT Grow (now Farm) was selected as one of three winning projects and received a $5,000 prize to support the initiative.
