MIT Farm wins Karl Taylor Compton Prize!
MIT Farm Club has been awarded Karl Taylor Compton Prize-
the highest award presented by the Institute to students in recognition of excellent achievements in citizenship and devotion to the welfare of MIT. We are extramly honored to receive this recognition only one year after starting the club!

MIT Farm Seeding Discovery Curriculum presented as part of Day of Climate Event at the MIT Musum
Aleks Banaś and Zachary Rapaport have been awarded the Day of Climate grant for designing a curriculum for k-12 education. Together with Kahleen Wheaton, Lyn Nanticha Ocharoenchai and Elsa Deshmukh they put together a curriculum titled Seeding Discovery: Designing Growing Space for Your Community. The curriculum has been presented at MIT Museum on the 15th of April. Thank you to all of you that came by and planted a seed with us (litteraly!).

Those of you who have been comming with us weekly know that there is never an off season for the farm. However that dosn’t mean we cannot use a reason to celebrate and make a barbeque together (or even start a dj set in the greenhouse). Yes, you read that right, what a great party and begining to the season! Thank you Hannan Healty Food Team for the Invite!

Delicious soup, farm fresh salad and roasted tofu. This was the menu during our second resilient future dinner. There is just nothing like getting to know each other around choping some vegetables and steraing a pot of hot supe. First Resiliant Future Dinner
Together with prof. Kate Brown (MIT STS) and Gabriel Bonamy (DUSP 26’) we have run the first Resilient Future Dinner. Idea? A place where students can exchange idea into what actions, howver small, within our campus environment can make us more resilient.

IAP Rootmaking Class: Designing a Rootcellar for Hannan Healthy Foods!
Remember there is not an off season at a farm. As the fields are resting under a thick layer off snow we don’t stay still. This IAP (Independent Activities Period at MIT) Aleks Banaś and Zachary Rapaport have co-lead a class thorugh department of Architecture, rethinking how some of the Farms Infrastructre can be updated to meet the farms current nead. Firt Fresh Food Bag Season finishes with a Success!
6 weeks, 260 fresh food boxes distributed and 100 harvest and distribution shifts. Those are only few numbers that describe this Fall’s Fresh Food Bag Pilot!
We are happy to raport that we believe this pilot imporved our communities diet with 37 out of 54 of you repsonded that farm-stand helped you increase there vegetable intake. And 90% of you found it very affordable or affordable adressing the need of accessibility of fresh produce on campus. One is certain, 50 out of 53 indiicated that you want the program to continue next year so this is only the beginig. Unitl next season!

Let’s Connect the MIT Communirt with local Agriculture

It has only been less than a month since our first volonteering session and we already took 97 of you to the farm, run 9 volonteering sessions and sold 150 boxes of presh produce! It’s incredible how many of you want to come together to farm and prepare delicious food together. It didn’t slip the attention of MIT Tech so if you are interested in reading more about the initiative read the whole piece here!

Fresh Food Bag Program Officially Launch
Access to fresh, delicious produce is challanging, we know! This is why together with MITOS (MIT Office of Sustainability) and Heather Paxon the Associate Dean at MIT Antropolgy we lauched the Fresh Food Bag Program. Think about it as a farmers market on campus. Get a box filled with $20 of fresh produce for only $10 dolars and enjoy the seasonal produce weekly without needing to commite for a CSA share for 12 weeks. Take the box for yourself of share with your friends. And don’t forget to share what delishious meals you prepared with us!
FInd us in Stata Center every Monday at 4pm until the end of October! We will be there untill all the products sold out. Come early to guarentee yourself a box.

First Retreat at Hannan Healthy Foods
And we begin! This saturday the first bus of MIT students headed to Hanna Healht Food in Lincoln MA to take part in our first ever farm volonterring session. We enjoyed spending a day in the field adn finish with a big bowl of fresh salad from the produce we just harvasted. What a lovely day! Make sure to check our calendar and join our next session!

MIT Farm as one of the winners of ICamus Prize!
Aleks Banaś and Zachary Rapaport have presented a vision for MIT Grow (now MIT Farm) during I Campus competion, this year targeting on campus sustainable initiative. We are happy to announce that our framework for frowing food and relationship with partners on and off campus to grow food together has been one of 3 wining project and received a prize of $5000 dollars.
